Mano Cornuto

The Mano Cornuto, or "horned hand", is hand sign made by extending one's first and last finger (pinky) while folding one's second and third fingers, as well as thumb down. The sign represents the horns of an animal and the sign itself is used for protection against evil and to ward off the evil eye. Despite what many people may falsely believe, the Mano Cornuto is not made with the thumb extended. To do so would be to make the sign for "I love you" in sign language.

Unfortunately the Mano Cornuto has been perverted by certain Satanists to represent the Devil. Such use has achieved a much wider awareness, especially in the United States and the U.K., than the true positive purpose of the hand sign. Associated with such use is the giving of the hand sign at various heavy metal or rock concerts as well as the promotion of the false belief that the sign means "rock on".

The Mano Cornuto should also not be confused with the sign given by fans of the Texas Longhorns. Today, many Christians falsely believe that the making of the sign of the horned hands, even if only done to show support of the Texas Longhorns, to be an open declaration of one being a Satanist. Many of these Christians also confuse the sign for "I Love You" with the sign of the horned hand as well. Some even incorrectly claim that the sign actually means, 'I love Satan'.
